First time tasting Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, I was not expect to love it, despite the price.

Should I go back again? I don't know, depending on my wallet!

Hi EvolGarlic here, Here’s the article from your truly EvolGarlic Article Pelican Newsletter on Substack :

It was December, the last month of the year, where the atmosphere was strange, like it was festive season in the air, the air was filled with cold wind and the decorations of the impending new year eve.

At that time, I was walking down my 7-11, looking for the next snacks to binge and taste it, when I noticed that there is a thing that I seen on the screen as the television ads but not on the shelf: a pack Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, containing two cup in the package, with the price of 49 baht attached to it.

At first, I was doubtful that the taste might be disappointed for mine taste buds, because the price that was higher than the regular chocolate, but then, again, my curiosity is running wild again, asking me to grab it and taste the thing, if it really taste like a “Disappointment” I should not touch it again (Until it was discount) or if it delicious and my budget is good, this is definitely really a good investment.

When I was ready to engage in this strange world of unknown snacks that I heard the name and old television advertisements, I was wondering if the taste was going to be either overwhelmed with chocolate, overflowing with peanut butter, or just the right amount of two sides in one piece.

But before I tell you about the taste of it, here's the history of this snack :

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups was born in the year of 1923 by The H.B. Reese Candy Company which was also established in the same year, the real product name was called “Penny Cups” because at that time, the price was one cent.

H.B. Reese, the man who was inventing this snack, used to work in the Hershey Dairy Farm, and use the Hershey Chocolate in the cup. This unique chocolate creation was so popular, H.B had to discontinue the other line of chocolate.

Reese passed away in 1956, leaving the legacy and the company to his six sons: Robert, John, Ed, Ralph, Harry, and Charles to take care of.

On July 2 1963, the Reese brothers merged the H.B. Reese Candy Company merged with the Hershey Chocolate Corporation with a Tax-free Stock-for-stock merger, making this snack even more popular than before, it was so popular, Reese's Peanut Butter Cup became a top seller in the Hershey line of products.

If the television advertisement is not catchy enough, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups would not survive the common enemy of all products: Time. So in 70's and 80's Reese's Peanut Butter Cups has created a television advertisements campaign where two people who holding a different type of snacks, one holding a bar of chocolate and another one a peanut butter, collided in the worst way possible, combining the two unlikely snack into each other's snack of choice.

“You got peanut butter on my chocolate!” and “You got chocolate on my peanut butter!” was exchanged between the two side, but rather than a fisticuff and a dust-up, both of them are tasting this unique combination, and found out that it was delicious, very unlikely delicious, and then the slogan was born:

“Two great tastes that taste great together”

That was the moment that marked the moment for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and then the rest is history.

That's all for the history of these snacks, let's go to the main chase, how does it taste?

Well, after taking a bite of this cup, I was found out that it was crunchy from the chocolate, and chewy from the peanut butter filling inside, it was so good, in the next and last cup, I was devour it all, getting the best of both world.

It was delicious, but the price of it was a little bit too much for my liking, if the price was 19 baht less, I would be enjoying it even more, like weekly, but despite the hefty price that was souring high to 49 baht, it is good for once in a while chocolate that make it worth paying for.

8 out of 10 cups!
