[Free Article] Calpis Lacto / Calpico review: the real soft drink with the taste of the Japanese summer time.

Hi EvolGarlic here, this is the newsletter from your truly, in the series of EvolGarlic's Products Reviews :

When talking about soft drinks, those fine drinks with a taste that sparks in your tongue and mind, you might have a few brands popping up like Coca-Cola, Pepsi and many more brands that you know and drink a lot.

But as you know, I will find something unique among the brands that you know, and this brand is one of my favourites, Calpis!

Calpis (Or Calpico in North America) was a drink born in Japan in the year 1919 by Kaiun Mishima, who discovered a similar drink called airbag while on a trip to Mongolia, after trying many errors, in the date of 7 July 1919, calpis finally went on sale for the price of 1.60 Yen per bottle.

Many discover this drink to be a "The Taste Of First Love" drink, with sweet, sour and milky flavours, but before it became a normal beverage in the ordinary household, Calpis was a reserved drink for special occasions and gifts, it took a long time until 1965 before Calpis become a sensation in the country.

After that, Calpis started to spread its popularity by expanding to different countries, including Thailand, where it arrived in the early 2000s under the name Calpico Water and stayed there for a while before the brand lost in time between 2006 and 2007, and came back to the market in 2009 in the new name of Calpis Lacto, and then it stay in the market till this day.

Although Calpis Lacto does release more flavours like grapes, cream soda, amasake and many more, the classic flavour is still a favourite of mine, although I do taste other flavours.

The reason why I love this drink so much? Because, unlike many soft drinks I drink beforehand, it is softer to drink, easy to digest, and tasty, it is kinda like you watching a TV show that comforts you after many hours of working, so calm and milky, it's hit me right in the relaxing spot while drinking it (despite I drink it fast sometimes)

Also, this drink is not just good for the summer (especially in Thailand, where summer is packing quite a heat) this is the drink of any season, with the soft and mellow taste that Calpis is known for, this drink is good for any occasions, and also, Calpis is good for your guts, which many other soft drink brand do not have, with the 5,000 mg of fibre, this drink is a good exchange for your typical soft drink that you know before.

If you are interested in tasting it, and if you are living in Thailand, Calpis Lacto can be found in convenience stores like 7-11, Big-C, Familymart and many other stores, the price may be a bit too much than the regular soft drink (22 baht per bottle) the real soft taste is what make it unique.
